Install Non-Profit Bookkeeping from Google Workspace Marketplace

Non-Profit Bookkeeping Community Edition is distributed as a Google Sheets add-on. Once installed, the add-on can be used with the Google Sheet that holds your nonprofit’s bookkeeping records.

Marketplace status

The public Marketplace listing is being prepared for Google review. The direct Marketplace link will be added to this page after the listing is approved. Approved testers can continue using the Google Editor add-on test deployment during review.

What You Need

  • A Google account
  • Access to Google Sheets
  • Permission to install Google Workspace Marketplace add-ons for your account
  • A Google Sheet that you want to use for bookkeeping

If your Google Workspace administrator restricts Marketplace installations, your administrator may need to approve or install the add-on for your organization.

Step 1 — Install the Add-on

After the Marketplace listing is public, open the Google Workspace Marketplace and search for Non-Profit Bookkeeping Community Edition.

Select the listing and choose Install. Google will show the permissions requested by the add-on. Review them and continue if you agree.

Permissions Used by the Add-on

The add-on requests access needed to operate inside the current bookkeeping spreadsheet, display its dashboard and dialogs, create or manage its supported Google Drive files, run approved triggers, and identify the signed-in account when needed for setup or audit information.

For the detailed explanation of permissions and data handling, see the Privacy Policy in the Bookkeeping help menu.

Step 2 — Open Your Bookkeeping Sheet

Open an existing Google Sheet or create a new spreadsheet that will become the nonprofit’s bookkeeping workbook.

The spreadsheet and the bookkeeping data stored in it remain in your Google account. The add-on provides the application logic used to create and manage the bookkeeping structure.

Step 3 — Open the Add-on

In Google Sheets, open Extensions and select Non-Profit Bookkeeping Community Edition.

Choose the option to start setup or open the Bookkeeping Dashboard.

On first use, Google may ask you to authorize the add-on. This is normal. Google presents the permissions associated with the verified application before access is granted.

Step 4 — Let Bookkeeping Prepare the Spreadsheet

During first-time setup, the add-on creates or prepares the sheets and data structures required by the bookkeeping system.

Do not rename or delete system sheets unless the help documentation specifically says it is safe to do so. Some sheets may exist primarily as application data tables rather than user-facing worksheets.

Step 5 — Complete Organization Information

Open the Dashboard and go to Settings → Organization Information. Enter the organization’s name, legal name, EIN, state, organization type, fiscal year information, and other requested setup details.

Using the Nonprofit Startup Kit?

If the organization was created in the Nonprofit Startup Kit, choose Import from Startup Kit.

The importer first shows a preview. After review, choose Apply Import. The Community bridge imports organization basics, programs, people and roles, and related-party metadata. It does not import accounting transactions, accounts, balances, funds, reconciliations, or tax-year history.

Step 6 — Begin Bookkeeping

After setup, use the Dashboard to add financial accounts, review programs and funds, enter transactions, reconcile statements, generate reports, and prepare year-end information.

Using the Add-on in Another Spreadsheet

Once the add-on is installed for your Google account, it can be available from the Extensions menu in supported Google Sheets documents. Each bookkeeping spreadsheet maintains its own nonprofit bookkeeping data and settings.

Uninstalling or Removing Access

You can manage installed add-ons through Google Workspace Marketplace and manage connected application access through your Google Account settings.

Uninstalling the add-on does not automatically delete the nonprofit’s spreadsheet or files already stored in Google Drive. Those remain under the control of the Google account that owns them.
