Simple bookkeeping tools designed for nonprofit organizations using Google Sheets.
Non Profit Bookkeeping for Anyone is a Google Sheets–based bookkeeping system designed to help nonprofit organizations record income and expenses, manage accounts, track grants and programs, reconcile transactions, maintain supporting records, and prepare useful financial and tax-preparation reports.
The application is built with Google Apps Script and runs directly inside a Google Sheets workbook.
Instead of creating an account on a separate bookkeeping website, each organization creates its own copy of the workbook in its own Google account. The bookkeeping records entered into that copy remain in the organization’s Google Sheets and Google Drive environment.
It does require a Google or Google Workspace Account and Google Sheets.
The stand alone project for installation on a local Chromebook, Mac or Windows System is under development.
Your organization keeps its own records
Non Profit Bookkeeping for Anyone is not designed as a centralized online bookkeeping service.
There is no shared public database containing the financial records of organizations using the workbook. Each user works from an independent copy stored within their own Google account.
The workbook may create supporting bookkeeping files, such as reconciliation documents, within the user’s Google Drive. The application currently uses Google Drive access for this document-storage functionality.
Access to the workbook and any related Google Drive files is controlled by the sharing permissions selected by the Google account owner.
Built for the nonprofit community
The project was created to make nonprofit bookkeeping easier to understand for organizations that may not have dedicated accounting staff.
The system focuses on plain-language data entry while maintaining the bookkeeping structure needed underneath for financial reporting, reconciliation, and tax-preparation assistance.
The master workbook is provided so nonprofit organizations can make their own copy and use it within their own Google environment.
